Little Cougar activity begins each fall with scheduled player registration sessions. The dates and times of these sessions will be announced in school and on this web site. All efforts are made to reach other children who do not attend the Blackhawk School District but reside in the Blackhawk School District. Registration is followed by a skill assessment. The skill assessment ensures that the players are equally distributed amongst the age bracket. Practices are conducted once per week (practices are limited to one hour) beginning in the late fall and continue throughout the regular season and playoffs. Games are conducted on Saturdays.
Games are refereed by young adults (primarily high school students). These young adults are learning to referee just as the children are learning to play and we ask that you treat them with dignity and respect.
The teams are divided into four divisions. The divisions consist of a 5th and 6th grade girls division, a 5th and 6th grade boys division, a 3rd and 4th grade girls division and a 3rd and 4th grade boys division. Additionally, a second grade co-ed program operates during the late fall. The number of teams varies each year and is determined by the registration process. Players are equally distributed amongst the teams to ensure playing time remains equal. Some teams may have an additional player due to an uneven player count. Players receive equal game playing time. Each coach must follow an established player rotation.
The season concludes with a tournament style playoff. Each team qualifies for the tournament. Tournament seeding is determined by the team’s regular season record. A champion is crowned for each age bracket. The only exception to this is the second grade program. The second grade athletes do not compete in a tournament.
